Into the Ether is a collection of anonymous notes, rants, manifestos, confessions, love letters, and the utterly indecipherable compositions left in the typewriters at 20twenty.

For the past five years, before each vintage typewriter is sold, we've grabbed that piece of paper that folks have been typing away on, ostensibly to test the quality of the typewriter, but more often than not, also leaving something behind. That something, for better or worse, is this show....it's mundane, it's confessional, it's juvenile, absurd and funny, and sometimes even slightly poetic. Completely anonymous conscious and unconscious ramblings, sent straight into the ether...

BIO:
Anna Wetzel is a Seattle based artist, born in Kansas City, Missouri. Influenced by living in two originally industrial cities positioned within vast wilderness, her work often explores the ways societies define themselves and work through existential neuroses in relation to the surrounding landscape and wildlife.

DESCRIPTION:
Through a new series of self portraits, Anna Wetzel constructs an identity of power based on domestication of the supernatural animals in our midst. When coaxed into submission, these wild creatures become fanciful pets and objects for personal adornment, paraded triumphantly by their bearer as a picture of companionship turned into risky captivity.

POLAROID 600 speed film

We have about 35 packs left. Definitely the last place in Seattle to carry the polaroid 600 speed instant film, so come by if you need some. We also have a great collection of cameras on hand. Film is $30 a pack, and was the last run of film produced, which expires at the beginning of September.

Portraits of Fiction, opens Saturday October 10th 7-9 pm

Portraits of Fiction explores the process of collage through found photographs. Julia Salamonik detaches images of people from their surroundings and delicately tucks them away into understated yet striking scenes. All at once simple and quiet they each have a slightly playful side to them.

Born into a tight knit Polish family, Julia grew up amidst a strong cultural tradition of storytelling. She recently graduated from the University of Washington where she studied Photography and Slavic Languages and Literature.

Factoria art opening Saturday Sept. 12th, 6 pm

FACTORIA is

New works (primarily on paper) by Jamey Braden, Aaron Harris, Daniel Mitchell, and Darin Shuler. Along with each artist's visceral, often humorous original artworks, FACTORIA will include various artist "products," "byproducts," and "manufacturings." These multiples specifically comprising of zines, prints, pins, jewelry, and clothing. The artists often work together and gave created for this show a Happy Little Factory.

A group Show curated by Alexa Anderson

Opens Saturday July 11th at 7 pm (Ballard Artwalk), and runs through August 5th.

Light, Sound, Repeat is a group show featuring locals Joey Bates, Laura Kinney and Carlos Esparza. This show challenged the artists to visually represent light, sound and repetition in any way they wished. Working independently of each other, they each interpret these three ideas in distinctly different ways.


Artist Statements

Carlos Esparza:
For Light, Sound, Repeat, i am exploring the limits of intellectual property and just what it means to "make an image.' I have rephotographed and combined images from popular cinema into thematic tryptics; sampling to make my own compositions, quoting to form my own statements. Addressing the mediation of our visual experience the only way i can, by mediating it further.

Joey Bates:
I generally focus on portraiture. For this show on light, sound and repetition I am looking at different ways of visually representing sound in conjunction with portraiture.

Humans are constantly searching for patterns and connections; in my creative process I find connections through materials I use in an attempt to make sense of it all.
